Lt Colonel Singh, Naik Jitendra Kumar cremated with full military honours

Lt Colonel Harjinder Singh, who was among the 13 people killed in a helicopter crash in Coonoor in Tamil Nadu last week, was cremated with full military honours at the Brar Square crematoriu­m here on Sunday. His daughter performed the last rites.

Army chief General M.M. Naravane, Air chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, Navy chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar, and other officers paid tributes to Lt Col Singh, who is survived by his wife Maj Agnes P. Manezes (retd.) and daughter Preet Kaur.

The defence minister was also seen consoling the family members of Lt Colonel Singh.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh on Sunday bade teary adieu to Naik Jitendra Kumar, who was among the defence personnel killed in the chopper crash.

A wreath laying ceremony took place at the state hangar in the airport here after the mortal remains of the para commando arrived here from Delhi in the morning.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was among the dignitarie­s who laid wreaths on the mortal remains of the para commando.

An army vehicle, with flowers, decorated

then carried his mortal remains to his native village of Dhamanda in Sehore district. Hundreds of people, gathered on the roadside at many places in the 55 km-route from Bhopal to Dhamanda to pay their respect to the para commando, were seen showering flowers as the army vehicle passed by.

The entire village was decorated with flowers and people were seen throwing flowers on the vehicle as it passed through rows of houses in the village.
