Meta to partner with CBSE to enhance syllabus
Meta, the owner of social media platform Facebook, on Wednesday said it will expand its partnership with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to provide a curriculum on Digital Safety & Online Wellbeing and Augmented Reality (AR) for over one crore students and 10 lakh educators in India.
Speaking virtually at Meta’s Fuel for India, 2021, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder-CEO of Meta, said Meta and CBSE will democratise the high school curriculum by allowing students access to quality educational content online through modules which would be made available on CBSE's website.
He said the partnership with CBSE also underscores Meta’s commitment to India, and reflects the joint ambition to universalise STEM education by ensuring that students across India have equitable access to quality educational content which will prepare them for the Future of Work in a digitally powered economy.
During the first phase of the ‘FB for Education’ initiative launched in June
2020, over five lakh students showed interest in digital safety and online well-being and more than
14,000 teachers applied for training in Augmented Reality. In the second phase of Facebook partnership, select principals and teachers participated in the Educators Roundtable at the India International Centre in New Delhi on November 2,
2021, and further a webinar was organised on December 1, 2021, with over
5,000 teachers discussing digital wellbeing, digital citizenship and immersive STEM education using Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.
