Cops set up 60 CCTV cameras in Afzalgunj
Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar inaugurated a network of 60 CCTV cameras under the Afzalgunj police limits on Thursday. These cameras were installed under the ‘Nenu Saitam’ initiative, with contributions from donors.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said that by setting up CCTV cameras, they were able to control criminal activities. “Any kind of criminal case can be easily solved with the help of CCTV cameras,” he said. Further, Kumar also said that one CCTV camera is equal to 100 police officers. “We may get tired, but the cameras are working constantly. Hyderabad city’s population is 1.2 crore, and it has 16,000 police personnel. All kinds of facilities have been set up in the police department with the
help of taxpayers,” he added. “Previously, police officials worked hard to catch a single thief, and it involved the formation of many teams. But now, with a single CCTV camera, the case can be easily solved, thereby reducing expenditure to a large extent. There are nearly 5,000 traffic junctions in the city. It is impossible to deploy police personnel at all junctions. Even then, 16,000 policemen will not suffice,” the commissioner said.
“Unmanned traffic junctions have been set up in the city. The Chief Minister has provided 30 per cent reservation for women in the police department. Therefore, the number of policewomen is set to increase. The image of the police department is much better than before. People have the same responsibility as the police in helping detect cases. CCTV cameras help maintain peace and security,” he added.
