- SYED OMAR FAROOQ | DC

More than 70 families living in Sithapha lmandi have complained of spending sleepless nights since the opening of a bar in their locality recently. The locals complained that after the bar was opened a month back, its customers are dirtying the area and causing disturbance in the evenings. G. Murli, a resident, said the bar is located near educational institutions and hospitals like Vivekananda Junior and Degree College, Goutam Model School, Johnson Gram mar School and Krish namurthy Hospital. “This bar is one of the 21 owned by a businessman and the police are

reluctant to take complaints against outlets,” Murli said.

In the late evening hours, when women go out for vegetables, the narrow lanes in the locality are occupied by anti-social elements holding liquor bottles. They threaten when

“My house is only a few feet from the bar. My daughter’s studies have been affected by the loud noises and vulgar language used by its customers,” M. Shruti, a housewife, said. “We complained to the local

said many police but no action has been taken,” she added.

The bar is supposed to be closed by 11 pm, but customers are allowed to booze till very late into the night after the shutters are down.

“I tried asking some of the customers on a couple of occasions on why they were creating nuisance but ended up being abused and threatened,” M. Mahesh, a resident, said. “As per rules, bars and wine shops should be 100 metres away from educational institutions and religious structure,” said K. Naveen Kumar, assistant prohibition and excise superintendent from Dhoolpet. “If any bar or a wine shop is violating these rules, we will take a legal action against them,” he added
