When are we getting married? Ranbir asks Alia
The lovebirds flirt and romance during Brahmastra promo, thereby proving that actors will do anything to publicise their film
Having been silent on his relationship with Alia Bhatt for a few years, Ranbir Kapoor decided to get into his romantic avatar in front of a live audience at the motion poster launch of Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, his upcoming film with Alia.
Ranbir, who plays Shiva in the film, was visibly emotional at the start of the event. “It’s been 8 years. We were shooting the last schedule of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani when this boywonder and genius friend of mine called Ayan Mukherji narrated the basic idea of a young man born with a power that he doesn’t fully understand — the power of fire. And it’s been a lot of hard work, sacrifices, blood, sweat and pain. The film has taught me something important in life that I can live and we can hold on to the fundamental quality of faith. Beyond the pain, hard work, sweat there’s a lot more and beyond you and me; this is f**king good,” he said.
Then remembering his late actor father Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir said how he missed him terribly. “I remember during the making of this film for the last many years he’d always fight
with me and Ayan about why we were delaying the film. ‘Why are you not releasing the film? Who spends so much time on the film? Ranbir you’re not making one penny on this film. Why are you making a VFX-based film? No one sees a VFX film in India,’ he’d keep saying. I believe he’s somewhere here today and I hope he’s smiling,” said Ranbir. Next, Ranbir called Alia on stage. “Shiva is incomplete without his
Shakti. Let me call my favourite and everyone’s favourite, Alia Bhatt,” he said.
Alia, who came on stage, was in tears. “I am feeling a little emotional about what you just said (about Rishi Kapoor),” she said. But Ranbir decided to immediately shift gears and get into flirt mode. First he began moving away from Alia, and when she questioned him why he was moving away, he says, “Tum itni hot lag rahi ho, kuch ho raha hai mujhe [You’re looking so hot, something’s happening to me].”
Soon after, he asks her, “You’re not even on the poster.
Why are you feeling emotional?”
Without missing a beat around the flirting cue, Alia says, “Because you’re on the poster, baby. Ranbir, Ayan and I spoke about it for four years and now the
moment’s here.”
But amidst all the romantic banter, a member of the audience asked, “Ranbir, when will you marry Alia or someone else?”
Even as Alia let out a shocked expression, Ranbir had an answer to the question. “Haven’t we seen a lot of people get married in the last one year? We should feel happy for that,” he said. But right after, turning to Alia, he asks, “Anyway, Alia, hamari kab ho rahi hai (when is ours happening)?” Even as Alia kept mum, Ayan Mukherji, who’d also joined them on stage, softly put in that they should only concentrate on one date for now — 9 September 2022 — the film’s release date.
