Waterlogged road a bane for Chisti Chaman
For several years, over 2,500 residents of Chisti Chaman, Mangalhat, and Azifnagar have been facing severe issues due to the stagnation of drain water on Chisti Chaman road, which is a shortcut to Mangalhat and Asifnagar. Drain water stagnation every alternate day has been a health hazard, residents complain. Due to the drain water stagnation, education of the children living in these areas is also being affected.
The stretch from Yellamma temple to Saibaba temple on Chisti Chaman road has damaged SNDP lines that are parallel to drinking water and drain lines. As the drinking water is supplied every alternate day in this area, leaks from pipelines seep into SNDP lines and the entire road is getting stagnated.
“Children in the Anganwadi often fall sick. Drain water enters the school premises. We have reported to the GHMC officials and even pleaded to them, but they don’t just care. No one is there to resolve our issue,” A. Lakshmi, an Anganwadi employee said.
“The Chisti Chaman road has two temples, the Yellamma temple, Saibaba temple and a mosque. With the drain water on the road, it has become difficult for us to enter the temple,” N. Kishore, resident of Mangalhat said.
U. Mounika, a housewife said, Chisti Chaman road is a shortcut to AsifnagarNampally and Mallapally, not only I, but most of the residents have stopped using this road as it always has drain water. Instead, we go to Asifnagar via Mangalhat, which is too long for us. The drain water stagnation problem has existed since I used to go to school. Now I am married and have a fiveyear-old kid. Still the situation is the same,” Mounika said.
“If the authorities take it seriously, the issue can be resolved easily. They come once in a while to take pictures. This has been happening for the last 16 years. The drain and drinking water lines need to be replaced so that it is easy for the residents and the people in the locality who come to offer prayer at the mosque that is right in Chisti Chaman road,” Khan Sahab, Imam of Jamia Masjid said.
“Local leaders are not at all concerned. We have given several representations to the local leaders, but they have not yet responded,” Shaik Omair, one of the residents, said.
“Government has sanctioned `19.50 lakh for laying new SNDP lines. The existing lines are only 600 mm in width,” M. Sashikala, Mangalhat municipal ward corporator said. “We will fix 900 mm new lines and see that the issue is resolved soon. There are two dairy farms attached to Chisti Chaman. So, the cow dung gets into the lines which are eventually getting choked,” she added.
Residents, motorists and pedestrians face health hazards and inconvenience as drainage water has been overflowing in the area for a long time at Sitarambagh in Mallepally.
Despite several requests, the civic authorities have not taken steps to clear the drains.
