Madhapur zone reports record number of cases

- NAVEEN KUMAR | DC HYDERABAD, JAN. 4

The Madhapur zone in Cyberabad has registered the most number of police cases — 11,761 — in 2021 in all three commissionerates, as per their annual reports which were released recently.

Some officials said the large number of cases was due to the location of a large number of ‘happening places’ in the area, Madhapur DCP K. Shilpavali, however, said that this was the result of people being more aware of policing and finding the cops more approachable to lodge complaints.

The Madhapur zone, covers Raidurgam, Gachibowli, Kukatpally, Narsingi, Miyapur, Chandanagar, RC Puram, KPHB colony, Bachupally, Madhapur and

Kukatpally. It had registered 9,879 cases in 2020, nearly 2,000 cases less than in 2021.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, DCP Shilpavalli said that most of the cases were booked under the IT Act as the zone housed many software firms and employers.

“There are many cyber crimes and online cheating cases reported from these areas. As the zone accommodates places which are developed, there is also a lot of activity,” the DCP explained.

“It is a good sign that people are approaching the police as it shows how aware they are of their police stations. The detection rate has been good, which can instil confidence in people that they can approach us and get justice,” Shiplavali said. With most services going online and companies becoming more tech-savvy during the Covid-19 pandemic, cybercrime cases in the Cyberabad commissionerate increased by

218 per cent in 2021 over

2020, to 3,854 from 1,212. Addressing this jump, Cyberabad police commissioner Stephen Ravindra said that the cases have increased.
