Shivin Sharma, a civil engineer who had the opportunity to preside over the construction of the Atal Tunnel as a quality control manager, is a combination of dapper looks and warmth, a perfect mix for anyone helming a hospitality venture. Once you get past his childlike enthusiasm, his awareness about the region and its fare and his passion for comfort hospitality can woo you to book your tickets to Kullu immediately.

The hillside elegance and the warmth of deep woods are instant selling points. Speaking of how this homestay came about, Shivin, says, “My grandpa began foraying into homestays years back when I was a child and he and my uncle were an inspiration. When I built my homestay, I put all my education and experience into practice. I personally designed and built the entire place from scratch without the aid of architects or designers.”

Discarding the saying ‘less is more’, which is never true, Shivin says “‘More is less’ is my

mantra. People are well-travelled and today’s double income couples expect a high level of hygiene and aesthetics. They do not like to holiday in a place that doesn’t meet high standards.

We ensure the food is fresh and of excellent quality. All our linen and health protocols are of the highest standards, even above the expected hospitality grade.”

One important aspect of any holiday that makes one want to go back is the food. You may have had a bad experience getting there, at the reception counters, or even with housekeeping,

but those can be forgotten. What remains etched in memory is the taste of the meals and the comfort of the bedding. When the twin needs of sleep and hunger are met, then you’re onto a winner. Shivin is confident. He says “Our family makes the best heritage food in the valley. This I can say without exaggeration. All of it is organic, as we grow most of our grains, vegetables and fruits. We serve dishes that are little heard of, like nettle chutney and femda - a soup with what one can only describe as dried thai basil and soya.”

This is a home that takes its purpose seriously, yet delivers light-hearted hospitality that will nourish your soul.
