TN poised to be No. 1 under Stalin

- G. BABU JAYAKUMAR | DC CHENNAI, MAY 6

In his year-long reign as Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin not only proved to be a busy bee working with no break and deeply concerned about the problems of the poor and underprivileged but also as the leader who could drive Tamil Nadu to the present pole position, from where it is now poised to win the developmental race among the States and take the number one position in overall growth soon.

Building on the foundation blocks laid out by earlier governments headed by Dravidian party leaders, Stalin took the State to a higher plane in various spheres like achieving social justice, fighting for the State’s Rights, reinforcing its economy by generating jobs opportunities through industrialization, developing education and ensuring inclusive growth.

Taking over the reins of the State exactly a year ago at a time when the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic was at its peak, the new Chief Minister not only displayed enormous tenacity and grit to not just help the people overcome the health crisis but also facilitated the State surmount the setbacks of the prolonged lock down that saw it economy going south.

When floods, brought by unprecedented rains, followed the pandemic, the State saw its new Chief Minister on his toes, driving through water logged roads to make sure that the State machinery rose to the dire situation and provided succor to the affected people.

His presence at the rain-hit areas made a big difference in the manner relief operations were carried out.

Even before endearing himself to the people through his hands on work, he had shut the mouths of doomsday prophets who were openly skeptical of him assuming the post itself. He then went on to prove that he is the best helmsman the State ever had by earning accolades from all over the country that quickly voted him as the Number One Chief Minister.

But, as he himself said, he was not content with the title of Best Chief Minister but wanted to take the State to the number one position through holistic growth that took all sections of people and all geographical regions to a higher plane of development.

He not only set a target for the State to become a US $ one trillion economy by 2030 but also set about devising plans to achieve it by wooing investors of all kinds and even personally visited places like Dubai and Abu Dhabi to lure foreign direct investment to ensure that Tamil Nadu became the most industrialized State.

Reiterating his commitment to the Dravidian principles that steer his policies, Stalin has become a torchbearer for social justice in the country with leaders of many other political parties in other States looking up to him for inspiration and guidance on issues like inclusive growth and reservation, thus earning a name for Tamil Nadu at the national level.
