Jagan orders action against kin for threatening company
In a rare instance, AP Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered action against a relative who was threatening an infrastructure firm for a commission to build a road project.
The Chakrayapet police in YSR district on Monday arrested mandal YSRC incharge Y.S. Konda Reddy for threatening the company, SRK Constructions, for a bribe. He is said to be related to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
YSR district superintendent of police K.N.N. Anburajan told mediapersons that Konda Reddy had threatened the management of SRK Constructions, which is doing road works between Vempalle and and Rayachoti, on May 5 over phone and demanded `5 crore. He reportedly had the work blocked by his associates and threatened that the ongoing works would be halted by “influencing the government,”
the SP said.
SRK Constructions is reportedly owned by a relative of a BJP leader from Karnataka. Sources said the contractor took the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister's Office which directed the police not to spare anybody who obstructed developmental works.
YSR district SP Anbu Rajan told the media that the construction company lodged a complaint against Konda Reddy. A case was registered against him at the Chakrayapet police station
and Konda Reddy was arrested. Police also obtained call data of the YSRC leader as evidence of threatening the contractor. The leader was produced at Lakkireddipalli court and sent to judicial custody. He was shifted to Kadapa Central prison.
The SP has urged the people to make use of the number 14400 or 100 to lodge complaints if they were threatened and they were extorted money by anyone in the name of work.
