An unscheduled power cut at a village in Madhya Pradesh had almost led to two couples marrying wrong partners.

However, the situation was corrected when some members of the girls’ family noticed the faux pas as the couples were about to begin the ‘Phere’ (taking rounds of the sacred fire), marking the conclusion of wedding rituals, delayed reports reaching here on Monday said.

The incident took place in the village of Aslana under Chandukhedi area in Ujjain district on the intervening night of May 5 and May 6, the report said.

The father of the two brides, Rameshlal Relot confirmed the initial confusion that occurred in the wedding of his daughters.

He, however, said that the brides took ‘phere’ with their respective ‘pre-fixed grooms’ to conclude their wedding rituals.

His two daughters, Nikita and Karisma, were scheduled to marry on the night of May 5. There was power failure in the village when the bridegroom parties arrived at Relot’s residence at around 11pm on May 5.The two bridegrooms, Bhola who was to marry Nikita, and Ganesh who was to wed Karisma, were taken to a room in the house where their marriages were held.

However, the two brides were made to sit with the ‘wrong’ grooms at the marriage altar mistakenly as the wedding rituals started. The faux pas was noticed by some members of the girls’ family as the two couples were about to take ‘phere’, causing stir in the function. This led to heated exchanges between members of families of brides and grooms.

Later, the elders in the village intervened and suggested that the situation can be corrected by making the two brides take ‘phere’ with their respective grooms.
