HC orders status quo on Jubilee Hills land
Civil court had called deal on land ‘unlawful document’
The Telangana High Court has ordered status quo over the controversial land parcel adjacent to Chiranjeevi Blood Bank in upmarket Jubilee Hills. A vacation bench comprising Justice A. Abhishek Reddy and Justice M. Sudheer Kumar said, “The matter requires detailed hearing” and posted hearing in the case to June 6.
The HC was dealing with a petition filed by the Landman Ventures (formerly Mantena
Reality) challenging a City Civil Court, Hyderabad, order declaring the development-cum-general power of attorney (GPA) agreement entered into by the company and former Jubilee Hills society chairman ‘NTV’ Chowdary and secretary T. Hanumantha Rao as an “unlawful document.”
The reality firm claimed that then managing committee of the society had entered into a build, operate and transfer (BOT) agreement with one K.V. Reddy in 2001. The land was leased out for 33 years with annual rent of `10,000. The government, however, cancelled the lease after through enquiry but K.V. Reddy approached the court against cancellation of the lease.
Meanwhile, the managing committee entered into the development-cum-GPA with
Mantena in 2019 with a condition that the latter should settle the matter with K.V. Reddy. Mantena was put in possession and it has been in the process of getting various permissions besides paying `2 crore non-returnable deposit to the society.
Mantena approached the civil court with a plea to direct the present managing committee to not interfere with the property. While the civil court dismissed the Mantena plea, the HC ordered both parties to maintain status quo till the matter was adjudicated in detail.
