Governor says yoga keeps one healthy
Marks 25 days’ countdown to Int’l Yoga Day on June 21
Yoga keeps one energetic and young and cures simple and even lifestyle diseases which our society is facing today, according to Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan.
Addressing the Yoga Utsav held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium on Friday, the Governor said, “I advise all of you, not as the Governor, but as a doctor, to practice Yoga. “I believe in the adage ‘a healthy mind resides in a healthy body’ and appreciate the enthusiasm of all of you who have come in thousands to perform Yoga in this sprawling stadium. I recall that 177 members in the UN Assembly in 2015 endorsed the idea of celebrating International Day of Yoga (IDY) proposed by our Prime Minister Narender Modi. In 2021, it was celebrated in 192 countries, which included 44 Islamic countries. The people of Telangana should dedicate themselves towards
Yoga like the countries that patronise our tradition, culture and heritage,” the Governor added.
Thousands of people from all walks of life joined the Yoga Utsav at Lal Bahadur Stadium on Friday to mark the 25 days’ countdown to International Day of Yoga on June 21. The theme based event ‘Make Yoga a Part of Your Life’ was organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under the ministry of ayush where more than 10,000 yoga enthusiasts performed common yoga protocol (CYP). Celebrities from the fields of cinema and sports also joined the festivities.
Speaking on the occasion, Union minister for sports, shipping, waterways and ayush Sarbananda Sonowal said, “We are really happy to witness thousands of Hyderabad
residents coming out to perform Yoga which has certainly enthused many more to join this movement. We must celebrate our rich heritage by making Yoga a part of our lives. It enriches our health and mind. Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yoga has got the necessary platform which has helped build the brand India image.”
“The success of today’s event will further give momentum towards the 8th IDY on June 21 in Mysuru where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the celebration of Yoga by enthusiasts and practitioners across the world. The idea behind this Yoga Utsav is to encourage people to take up Yoga, a wonderful gift of our thousands of years of civilisation, so that they can enrich their quality of life. We must join this beautiful movement, envisioned by our Prime Minister, towards building a happier and healthier India,” he added.
Union minister for tourism, culture & development of north eastern region of India, G. Kishan Reddy, said, “Today’s Yoga event is a celebration of 75 years of freedom, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, which will be held in 75 cultural centres all over the country. This event
will also be replicated in America and Australia to showcase our culture. It is an honour that Christian countries are patronising Yoga. I urge Hyderabadis to dedicate themselves and remain enthusiastic until June 21 when we shall assemble on the Tank Bund for a demonstration of Yoga by thousands of enthusiasts.”
