RFCL gets PCB nod for production

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The management of the Ramagundam Fertilisers Company Limited (RFCL) which received a major jolt from the Pollution Control Board (PCB) on May 29 took immediate preventive steps for restarting the production of fertilisers here in Ramagundam.

It is to be notified here on receiving the complaints from the locals and from Ramagundam MLA K. Chander Patel about leakage of gases and pollution of groundwater including the Godavari river with the release of effluents from RFCL, the PCB had issued a notice asking the management of the RFCL to stop the production of fertilisers.

The management discussed with the authorities of PCB and explained to them that with the closure of RFCL and stopping of production of fertilisers, the farmers would not able to get them in the required time as the kharif season was about to begin within a few days and would affect the entire agriculture sector not only in the Telangana state but also in the country with non-availability of fertilisers.

Moreover, there will be a possibility of an increase in demand for urea which will flow illegally in the market resulting in loss to the farmers, they said.

After listening to the consequences that the farmers and people would face in the days to come with the closure of RFCL, the PCB authorities responded positively and gave a nod for the production of fertilisers by opening the RFCL and asking them to adhere to the norms and to take immediate steps for preventing the pollution caused by the emission of RFCL.

With permission given by the PCB authorities, the management of the RFCL began the production of fertilisers.
