Saiyami to star in Ghoomer
Cricketing background proves an asset
Saiyami Kher, the Mirzya girl known for her work in webseries like Breathe: Into The Shadows and Special Ops, is all set to star in a Bollywood biggie. She will play a cricketer in R. Balki’s sports flick, Ghoomer, also starring Abhishek Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.
Interestingly, Saiyami's background in the game helped her get this opportunity.
Saiyami, who is also Shabana Azmi’s niece, has played cricket at the school level for Maharashtra. The actress even made it to the national team selection stage!
Saiyami says, “Cricket has been a huge part of my life ever since I was a kid. I have played and followed the game all through my school and early college life, which is why I feel I was destined to play this role.”
“Having a background and a working knowledge of the game has surely helped me understand the script better and has also eased the process of playing a sportsperson on the bigscreen, and helped me handle the intense training sessions required,” she says with a chuckle.
“Looking forward to putting my best foot forward for this super special project,” she adds. “A movie like ours needed someone with an authentic background. To find someone like Saiyami who is both a good actor and also a real-life great sportsperson, is a rarity. A true sports person cannot be replaced even if it’s in a movie,” notes Balki.
Abhishek Bachchan plays Saiyami's coach in Ghoomer.
