Man rapes 9-year-old in Hyd

A nine-year-old girl, who is reportedly mentally ill, was allegedly raped by a 39-year-old man who stayed in the vicinity of her house in LB Nagar. Police on Friday arrested the accused, Mohd Saleem, an autoricksh­aw driver, said LB Nagar inspector V. Ashok Reddy.

“Saleem used to frequently call the victim to his place and sexually assault her. Noticing the same, the neighbours notified her parents. The parents then asked the girl about the visits on Thursday night,” Ashok Reddy said.

“On Friday morning, she told them about the sexual assault and a complaint was received at around 9 am,” the inspector said. “The man was placed under arrest within 30 minutes and

The Jubilee Hills police were granted custody of all the minors involved in the gangrape and sexual assault case, including the son of an MIM MLA, on Friday. Officials would start their questionin­g from Saturday, the police confirmed.

The second day of questionin­g of the prime accused, Sadudin Malik, and the meeting with the minors at the Saidabad juvenile home could not be done on Friday, allegedly due to the sudden protests and tensions across the city which kept the West

Zone officials busy.

The investigat­ions would resume from Saturday as per our initial schedule, the police said.

Sources revealed that the police were to take statements from the juveniles from the Saidabad home and corroborat­e the same with that of Malik from his first day of questionin­g conducted on Thursday. The focus was reportedly on the minors involved in the case. Malik had not travelled in the Mercedes Benz during the first sexual assault involving the MIM MLA’s son, the police said.

Meanwhile, the assistant commission­er of police (ACP), cybercrime, K.V.M. Prasad said so far five cases were booked against those circulatin­g the videos of the incident on social media platforms.

“For the past few days, we have been sending notices to Facebook, YouTube and Instagram with the account informatio­n to take down the videos,” he said.

Malik and the four juveniles were allegedly involved in the gangrape of a minor girl in a car at Jubilee Hills on May 28.

The sixth juvenile was booked for outraging the modesty of the victim and other Sections of POCSO Act.

All the persons involved in the case have also been booked under sections of the Informatio­n Technology Act on charges of circulatin­g the videos of the crime, which they themselves shot on their mobile phones while committing the offence.
