Tricolour defaced in protest against Nupur’s remarks
Protesting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's remarks on Prophet Mohammed, some members of Islamic groups staged protest in Mahbubnagar and defaced the Tricolour, replacing the Ashok Chakra with the Kalima.
Hundreds of Muslims carrying placards marched in a procession demanding immediate action against the BJP leader, after offering prayers at the Masjid-eRahmat mosque in Mahbubnagar. They submitted a memorandum to the district collector seeking legal action against Nupur Sharma for humiliating a section of people making objectionable remarks during a TV show.
Later, BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar alleged that a section of a community had wanted to create problems and disturb peace to drive political mileage after the Kashi Viswanath issue. Sanjay stated that insult to the National Flag in any form was punishable as per the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act 1971 with three years jail and fine.
“The BJP strongly condemns defacing of the Tricolour during protests by certain sections in Muslim community in Mahbubnagar and demands immediately action against the agitators who dared to dishonour the Tricolour. It is an insult to India and to the secular credentials as the protests across the country are pre-planned,” he said. “The police should act immediately and take stern action against the protestors who disrespected the Tricolour by writing the Kalima in place of Ashok Chakra. It is a very shocking incident and protests are posing a challenge to the Indian government,” the TS BJP chief said.
