BUILDING A STRONG MARRIAGE TAKES TIME AND COMMITMENT

-

Please help me O saint?” the dejected man asked Saint Kabir, whom he visited after hearing numerous stories of his wisdom. “What is the matter?” said Kabir, spinning his charkha? “My marriage is on the rocks. My wife and I are completely incompatible. We argue and bicker constantly.” “Don’t worry.” Saint Kabir stopped weaving and smiled at his guest. “There’s always a solution.”

Kabir again started spinning his yarn and reciting his poetry. He paused and softly called out his wife, “Dear, please bring me a lighted lantern.” His wife brought a lighted lantern and placed it next to him. “We have a guest,” Kabir said to his wife, “please, offer him some sweets!” Saint Kabir’s wife came out holding a glass of water and an assortment of savory snacks. “Is this a house of lunatics? First, she brings a lantern in broad daylight and then when he asks for sweets, she brings savories,” mused the man.

Kabir asked the guest, “Have you got a solution to your problem?” The man was aghast, “What sort of a solution is this?” “You see, my friend, the secret of a happy marriage is to avoid unnecessary arguments,” said Kabir. “My wife could have asked why I needed a lantern at this time of the day, but she knew that I must have a reason for making a request as bizarre as that. And when she served savories instead of sweets, I figured we must have run out of sweets. The faith we have in each other gives both of us the space we need to do the best we can.”

My dear readers, I wish you realize that building compatibility is a mutual effort for a happy marriage.
