Implement UCC swiftly: VHP
Wants govt to free all temples across the country from its control
The two-day convention of the central margdarshak mandal of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Sunday demanded the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) swiftly and expressed concern over the “illegal horizontal religious conversions” and demanded a “stringent law against it”.
In the wake of the violent protests across the country over remarks by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Prophet Mohammad, the meet felt that the “Hindu community” should stand united against such “motivated attacks” to disturb the country’s peace and unity.
The meet, attended by saints and seers from across India, were also “satisfied” with the Supreme Court’s decision on the Gyanvapi Masjid case.
The meet also expressed concern over the recent killings of Hindus in Kashmir.
The meet, which culminated in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar on Sunday, also reiterated its demand that all temples across the country must be freed from the government’s control, for which the VHP will be launching a nationwide
public awareness campaign.
Four resolutions were passed at the meeting, including on strengthening the institution of the family, a stringent law against religious conversions, implementation of the UCC and muttmandirs to be liberated from the control of governments. The margdarshak mandal also welcomed
the Uttarakhand government move taking the initiative to implement the UCC.
Besides national issues, the saints and seers from across the country who had gathered to attend the meeting also expressed concern over the “present situation” in Punjab, which they felt was “on the verge of repeating the horrific period of terrorism
of 1984”.
A demand was made on the meet’s first day for high-resolution cameras to be installed inside and outside every mosque and madrasa in Muslim-dominated areas in the wake of Friday’s violence over the Prophet remarks.
The VHP asserted that India was run by the Constitution and not by the Sharia. —PTI
