Poorna completes her 7-summit test

Poorna Malavath created history by reaching the summit of Mt Denali

(6,190 metres/ 20,310 feet), the highest mountain in the continent of North America. By doing this, she completed the 7Summits Challenge. Poorna achieved the feat on June 5 during an expedition by Transcend Adventures, a Hyderabad based company with licenses to operate worldwide expedition­s. They were instrument­al in Poorna completing each expedition of her ‘7Summits Challenge’. Poorna’s summit was confirmed by her coach Shekhar Babu stating, “Poorna Malavath spoke over satellite phone after coming to lower camps from the summit and shared the news of her successful summit. She is very happy to climb this mountain.”

Poorna holds the record of being the youngest female in the world to climb Mt Everest, in 2014. She hails from the combined Nizamabad district.

Poorna is currently pursuing her Post graduation degree at Osmania University in Hyderabad.

The other team members who climbed Mount Denali along with Poorna are Ajeet Bajaj, Padmashree Awardee in Adventure Sports; Deeya Bajaji, daughter of Ajeet Bajaj — the first father and daughter duo to climb Everest, both father and daughter also completed the Seven Summits with this climb; Anmish Varma from Visakhapat­nam.

Anmish, 29, is also a twotime champion of the World Kickboxing and Karate Union’s championsh­ips. Representi­ng the country, he won gold medals at the WKU tournament­s held in Greece (2018) and Austria (2019).

Anmish climbed Mt Everest in 2021, Mount Kilimanjar­o, Mount Elbrus, Mount Aconcagua and peaks in India and Mount Denali now.
