Revanth: Will fight against Agnipath in Parliament
TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy said that the Congress will fight the Agnipath scheme in the Parliament, claiming that the BJP government's scheme spoiled the aspirations of unemployed youth.
Revanth Reddy on Friday met armed forces aspirants, who were arrested for protesting against the scheme at the Secunderabad Railway Station on June 17, at the Chanchalguda jail and assured them of help.
Speaking to reporters, he said that every government at the Centre has recruited around 60,000 Army personnel annually, “while the Modi government stopped this and proposed Agnipath.” “How would national security be possible without job guarantee to the Army?” he said, claiming that the Narendra Modi government compromised national security.
He demanded immediate withdrawal of the scheme, saying that it must have been discussed in Parliament before introduction.
Reddy said that the arrest of protesters has further deepened the woes of minorities as most aspirants belong to scheduled castes, tribes and backward classes.
“Youth of the country made ‘Chaiwala Narendra Modi’ the Prime Minister, but he spoiled the future of the youths with Agnipath scheme,” he said.
He called for the release of the protesters and for quashing the cases lodged against them.
“TRS leaders tried to yield political mileage from the death of Rakesh, who was killed in police firing at Secunderabad Railway Station, but the state government registered cases against the innocent candidates,” he said.
Revanth Reddy said that Congress will stage statewide protests on June 27 against the Agnipath scheme.
Congress party will also extend its legal aid to the jailed aspirants, he said.
TPCC working president M. Anjan Kumar Yadav and senior vice president Mallu Ravi accompanied Reddy.
