25 SFI activists held for attack on Rahul’s office

Police have taken 25 SFI activists into custody in connection with the attack on Rahul Gandhi’s office in Wayanad.

The police recorded the arrest of 19 SFI activists including the district president and secretary of Wayanad and produced them in a local court. They were remanded in custody.

A special investigat­ion team has been constitute­d by the police under a Diglevel officer. The entire probe is being monitored by ADGP Manoj Abraham.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had condemned the attack on Rahul’s office and assured strong action against the culprits. The CPM has also distanced itself from the attack.

Meanwhile, widespread protests were held by Congress workers across Kerala on Saturday to protest against the attack.

A massive procession was taken out by the Congress workers near the vandalised office in Kalpetta which was led by Opposition leader V.D.

The rally which began from Rahul Gandhi’s office in Kalpetta passed through the main areas of the town. During the rally, the Congress workers clashed with the police at many places.

The police have sounded a high alert in the district in view of Rahul’s threeday visit to his constituen­cy scheduled scheduled begin on June 30. The police have beefed up security near Congress and CPM offices in the district.

KPCC president K. Sudhakaran expressed doubts about the investigat­ion being carried out by the police. He said the police were trying to shield the real culprits.

He said the presence of the health minister’s personal staff in the violence only added to the seriousnes­s of the case.
