KAMAL TURNS PHILOSOPHICAL
What’s on Kamal Haasan’s wish list?
Not much really, according to the iconic actor himself. Kamal and his daughter Shruti Haasan recently released a video titled Legacy of Love, in which they discussed a wide range of topics, including dreams and desires.
When his daughter asked him to name an unfulfilled wish, the actor-politician first said, “There are a lot of those, a lot.” But as he processed the answer further, he acknowledged that perhaps the list wasn’t as long as he’d first imagined.
Sharing an old memory, Kamal told his daughter, “at Eldams Road (his old family home), my father gave me a small room that could perhaps fit two pianos. It was on the top floor… so, the heat! The restroom was three floors down. My father’s attitude was, ‘You know a lot so stay here. When you think you can’t go on like this, tell me and I will buy you a cow that you can rear’.”
Continuing to reminisce, he said, “So, I used to lie down and think, all I want is Rs 10,000 per month. I would make a list of things I would want to do with that money. I don’t even remember the things on that list. But those wants helped me sleep.” He remembered that he had wanted to buy a scooter, and then a car. “Now, when I have the wealth to buy all of those things, I wonder what do I want? A plane?” he said. Kamal realised he no longer desired possessions. Though not seeking asceticism, he questioned the value: “Where does it end? If I want a plane, how often will I use it? A large house in Kodaikanal—maybe a month there, then back. Why buy a bungalow?” Kamal is set for Indian 2 and Thug Life, plus a cameo in Kalki 2898 AD. Shruti is in Salaar Part 2: Shouryaanga Parvam with Prabhas and Dacoit with Adivi Sesh.
Materialistic life goals don’t hold much significance any more, says the actor-politician
