he en­vi­ron­men­tal au­thor­i­ties of Iran have sued a zoo for keep­ing an­i­mals in poor con­di­tions, par­tic­u­larly for chain­ing a bear to a post. The law­suit was filed af­ter sev­eral Ira­ni­ans shared pic­tures of the bear with a chain fas­tened to its neck and ex­pressed ou­trage on so­cial net­works about the way it was be­ing held cap­tive in Babol­sar. Iran’s en­vi­ron­ment depart­ment said it had in­spected Babol­sar’s zoo, in the prov­ince of Mazan­daran, and was pur­su­ing a le­gal case fol­low­ing com­plaints by the pub­lic over the ill­treat­ment of an­i­mals held there.

Mo­ham­mad Darvish of the depart­ment's ed­u­ca­tional and pub­lic par­tic­i­pa­tion of­fice, told news web­site Tab­nak that he was dis­mayed at see­ing the bear's plight and that the zoo should be closed down. MU­SEUM>> SATIRE • Ukraine
