PARCHED Residents of Bajad village in Haryana's Mewat district are constructing a tank to end their water woes. Once the tank is ready, they will get a water tanker to fill it. While the tank will cost them between ` 25,000 and ` 30,000, filling it up will cost them an additional ` 2,000. This is a huge expense for the residents, most of whom live below the poverty line. Because of acute water shortage in Mewat, a water mafia has sprung up in the region, adding to the miseries of the inhabitants.
