Eight of 100 peo­ple who con­sume just over one drink (10 g) a day are likely to de­velop atrial fib­ril­la­tion, or a dis­tur­bance in the heart rhythm, over a pe­riod of 10 years. Atrial fib­ril­la­tion in­creases the risk of heart stroke. The study was con­ducted on 5,000 adults, in the age group of 40-60, for six years.
