In­dia has had es­tranged re­la­tions with the two neigh­bours over water shar­ing for a long time. Shar­ing the In­dus River with Pak­istan has been a prob­lem since In­de­pen­dence. Par­tially re­solved through a treaty in 1960s, the cri­sis has been rekin­dled by the re­cent ter­ror ac­tiv­i­ties by Pak­istan. With China, the prob­lem with the Brahma­pu­tra River started af­ter the Indo-China war in 1962
