India has had estranged relations with the two neighbours over water sharing for a long time. Sharing the Indus River with Pakistan has been a problem since Independen­ce. Partially resolved through a treaty in 1960s, the crisis has been rekindled by the recent terror activities by Pakistan. With China, the problem with the Brahmaputr­a River started after the Indo-China war in 1962
