SC slams Centre for not supplying food grain to drought-hit states

Court slammed the Centre for failing to comply with its directions to supply food grain to drought-affected areas under the National Food Security Act. The bench of Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice N V Ramana said, kWe will discharge the Union of India (as respondents from the case), if it is not able to do anything.y The bench's strong observation came in the course of a hearing on the compliance of several directions issued by the court in its judgement on a public interest petition by non-profit Swaraj Abhiyan. The organisation had sought the court's intervention for relief to poor people in droughtaffected states, including Gujarat, Bihar and Haryana.
