Indonesia constitutes 83 per cent of Asia's peat lands—where partially decayed vegetation has accumulated. Over two decades, a significant portion of it has been burnt for palm oil and paper industries. At CoP22 in Morocco, Myrna A Safitri from Indonesia's newly formed Peatlands Restoration Agency tells Down To Earth that help is on the way. The agency, formed in January this year, is mapping peat lands and restoring areas by blocking canals and digging deep water wells.
