Revolutionary material
ONE OF the most valuable materials in the planet has been created by Harvard physicists, nearly a century after it was theorised. The material—atomic metallic hydrogen— will enable scientists answer fundamental questions about the nature of matter. The material is also believed to have a wide range of applications, including a room-temperature superconductor. The scientists also believe that wires made of this material could help save electricity lost in transmission, which is about 15 per cent. Science, January 26
