Producer, dentist booked for smuggling liquor in ‘police car’

-

CHENNAI: The city traffic police seized a car with police sticker stuck on it for smuggling liquor and nabbed a film producer and a dentist who were in the car, near Maduravoyal on Tuesday morning.

The car belongs to one Nazeef Shah, son of retired DSP G Nazeer Basha, while the person who drove the vehicle was identified as M Kalaiselvan, who has produced a movie called DhaDha 87 starring Charuhasan in the lead. The dentist was identified as Anandraj.

An SSI-led team from Maduravoyal traffic police intercepted the car on Poonamallee High Road at Alapakkam junction around 6.30 am. Though the car had a police sticker stuck on the windshield, it did not deter the officials from searching the vehicles. They found 248 bottles of liquor -204 bottles of 180ml, three 750 ml bottles and 41 beer bottles.

During the inquiry, the duo said they had bought the liquor from a Tasmac shop in Padappai and used their friend Nazeef’s vehicle under the impression that the police won’t stop them. They were handed over to Ambattur Prohibition Enforcement Wing police for further investigation.

Additional Commissioner (Traffic), A Arun, had instructed the traffic police personnel to check vehicles with police and press stickers and 94 vehicles with fake stickers were seized in a special drive over the last week.

Meanwhile, the R K Nagar and Ennore police arrested two persons, including a woman, for illegal sale of liquor and seized 118 bottles from them. The accused, K Saravanan (34) of Korukkupet and D Vijayalakshmi (30) of Ennore, were remanded in judicial custody.
