-

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam are likely to visit the bereaving Jayaraj family at Sathankulam. Though there is no official confirmation about the Chief Minister’s schedule, party workers are making arrangements for the visit of the AIADMK top brass.

Already, the local district secretary and Information Minister Kadambur C Raju have met the family members of Jayaraj and Bennix and have expressed their condolences, said a party senior and a former

MLA. “Our leaders will definitely visit the family and console them.

The DMK is campaigning about Sathankulam eyeing the Assembly seats of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts. The Opposition is trying to take political mileage from the incident. Our party will stop this. It is the state police that has arrested the accused and the others have been transferred and investigations are on,” he added.

In a joint statement, AIADMK leaders Palaniswami and Panneerselvam have already vowed to do justice and have announced a solatium of Rs 25 lakh from the party fund, the AIADMK senior said.

According to AIADMK party sources, Information Minister and local strongman Kadambur Raju has already invited the AIADMK leaders to Sathankulam where huge unrest was witnessed last week. The party leaders are yet to decide on the dates, sources said adding that the AIADMK leaders are also likely to visit Neyveli where six workers were killed in a boiler blast at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation’s power plant.

Meanwhile, state BJP president L Murugan welcomed the arrests made by the CB-CID police. He also reiterated his stand that the government was going on the correct track in handling the Santhankulam custodial death case and emphasised that the opposition DMK was trying to politicise the issue. “Murugan is likely to address reporters on Friday at Kamalayam and Sathankulam issue will be discussed,” BJP sources said.
