Maduranthagam GH chief doc dies of corona
CHENNAI: The chief doctor at the Maduranthagam Taluk government hospital succumbed to coronavirus at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Friday. Dr Sugumaran (52) had been serving as chief at the GH for the past few years.
A few days ago, he developed a mild fever and cold and went to a private hospital in Melmaruvathur for treatment. When the fever did not subside, he took an RT-PCR test for COVID-19 and turned out to be positive. Following the test, he was shifted to RGGGH and was undergoing treatment for the past two days. On Friday morning, he passed away without responding to treatment. Dr Sugumaran’s wife Jeyapriya is also a government doctor and the couple have two daughters. Sources said that their second daughter had also been infected with the virus and was treated at a private hospital in Melmaruvathur. She has been discharged and is now in home quarantine. The doctor’s colleagues said that the deceased chief had worked with several government hospitals in Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu before he was appointed to Maduranthagam Taluk GH.
