City’s new CoP lends an ear on WhatsApp video call

CHENNAI: As promised on his first day at work on Thursday, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, the new Chennai Commission­er of Police, started attending grievance of the public through WhatsApp video call (No. 6369100100) for the first time on Friday.

The city police later in a press release said as many as 34 people came on a video call to convey their grievances to the Commission­er. Most of the grievances on the first day was about transactio­ns, online frauds, e-pass, bouncing cheques, theft and land grabbing, the release said.

Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal had said that the initiative was meant to redress people’s grievances without making them venture out unnecessar­ily, thereby exposing themselves to the virus threat. He believes that it is possible to do the needful through video conferenci­ng in the beginning and further by suitable followup.

As on Friday, it was announced that the new city police chief will be meeting the public on video call between 12 noon to 1 pm on all Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
