Retd Idol Wing IG Ponn Manickavel undergoes heart treatment in Thanjai

Former Idol Wing IG AG Ponn Manickavel underwent a heart treatment in Thanjavur on Friday and his conditions are said to be stable. Ponn Manickavel (61) was the key personnel to bring back several idols, including the Rajaraja Cholan and Ulagamadevi idols after 60 years. He retired from service last year and was living in Chennai. On Thursday, he came to Alangudi to attend a wedding and he had chest pain in the night. Subsequently, he was taken to Thanjavur Meenakshi hospital on Friday morning. The doctors found that there was a block in the heart valve and so a medical team led by Dr Kesavamurthy performed angioplasty and fixed a stent. The hospital sources said that he was being monitored in the ICU and his condition is improving.
