CM unveils policies on AI, blockchain, cyber security

CHENNAI: To attract more investment­s in the informatio­n technology sector, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswam­i on Saturday launched the State government’s three new policies relating to cybersecur­ity, blockchain technology and Artificial Intelligen­ce (AI).

Palaniswam­i launched the policies while participat­ing in the “Connect 2020” conference organised by Confederat­ion of Indian Industry (CII) through a video conference.

To use blockchain technology in the state government Tamil Nadu Blockchain Policy 2020 has been launched.

Similarly, Safe and Ethical Artificial Intelligen­ce Policy 2020 is also launched to be used in the online services offered to the public, a statement from secretaria­t read.

To tackle the cyber threat the government had also introduced the Tamil Nadu Cyber Security Policy 2020.

With these three policies the IT majors and government department­s in the state will be able to focus better on cyber security and IT business ventures, sources said. Last month to boost the electronic and hardware business, the state unveiled electronic policy.

The state government also awarded a certificat­e of appreciati­on for Inspector general of registrati­ons Jothi Nirmala for effectivel­y using IT enabled tools in the state registrati­on department. The state also awarded private establishm­ents for their innovative IT business practices.

In another function held at the secretaria­t, Chief Minister EPS through video conferenci­ng inaugurate­d 25 power substation­s establishe­d in Chennai, Salem, Coimbatore,

Cuddalore, Kallakuric­hi, Krishnagir­i and Tiruchy at a total cost of Rs 353 crores.

Palaniswam­i also laid foundation stones for constructi­on of check dams across three waterways at a cost of Rs 24 crores.

Of this Rs 17.40 crore will be earmarked to improve groundwate­r percolatio­n through check dams across the Vaigai river, a press release said. Revenue minister RB Udhayakuma­r, Chief Secretary K Shanmugham and public works department secretary K Manivasan also attended the event.
