MADURAI: Angered by death of Selvan (32) of Chokkan Kudiyiruppu, Kommadikottai village, Sathankulam taluk, Thoothukudi district, relatives of the victim have demanded immediate arrest of the accused and also sought action against Thattarmadam Inspector of Police Harikrishnan.

Selvan was allegedly abducted by an armed group led by his foe Thirumana Vel of Usarathukudiyiruppu on Thursday due to a land dispute. However, Selvan’s family was shocked to find him beaten to death near

Thisayanvilai, Tiunelveli district.

It has been four days since the unfortunate incident happened and Selvan’s angry relatives refused to accept the mortal remains. On Sunday, the relatives demanded the arrest of Thirumana Vel, an AIADMK functionary, and his associates and also sought action against the police Inspector. According to T. Elizabeth, mother of the deceased victim, the two were involved in land dispute since over a year. Despite seeking the Inspector’s help on several occasions to end the dispute, the demand for action against Thirumana Vel was ignored.

The Inspector is said to have acted in favour of Thirumana Vel, who is the prime accused behind the killing. Further, the victim’s mother said the Inspector acted in a biased manner when a portion of her farm was badly destroyed by a country bomb placed by Thirumana Vel and filed a false case against his son earlier.

Moreover, two brothers including Bangaru Rajan alias Rajan and ‘Pillar’ Raja were also not spared as the Thattarmadam police filed false cases against them and beat them in the guise of inquiry. Rajan moved the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on September 16 seeking justice, however the Judge advised him to file an affidavit against the Inspector.

After learning this, the Inspector got irked and instigated Thirumana Vel to finish off Selvan, Elizabeth alleged. Thisayanvilai Inspector of Police Shyam Sundar said two teams have been engaged to trace the accused. Officials from Departments of Police and Revenue held talks with agitated relatives, but in vain. They also sought government job for one of the family member. Thoothukudi District Police has transferred the Inspector to Armed Reserve, sources said.
