MBBS admission counselling to remain offline to ensure transparency

-

CHENNAI: Though the counselling and submission of applications for admissions to postgraduate medical courses were made online, MBBS admission counselling is to remain offline as before the pandemic. Officials say that in-person counselling is necessary to ensure transparency in admissions.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test exam results are likely to be declared by the second week of October, and the submission of the applications would be done online at tnmedicalselection.net.

The online submission will be followed by offline submission of the filled-in applications.

The release of the rank list is expected in the third week of October, which is to be done online on the website of the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection committee.

However, contrary to the admission procedures for PG courses wherein the Directorate of Medical Education opted social media applications and video conferencing, the MBBS counselling will continue to remain offline in view of concerns over the transparency of the admission process.

The Director of Medical Education, Dr Narayana Babu, stated that the admissions to PG courses were done amidst lockdown and thus, online counselling had to be done.

The senior officials from the Directorate of Medical Education said that as students are free to travel within the State after the relaxations, counselling sessions will be done offline for MBBS admissions.

However, all the precautionary measures and safety precautions along with adequate social distancing will be taken during the counselling.

The first round of counselling for government and management quota seats are expected to be conducted in the last week of October for more than 4,000 State quota medical seats. The academic year for the undergraduate medical courses is expected to begin from November this year.

The release of the rank list is expected in the third week of October, which is to be done online on the website of the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection committee
