This platform aims to normalise conversation on body positivity

- MERIN JAMES

Many of us are victims of unsolicited comments on body weight, colour, skin tone and would have thought that it was high time we created our beauty standards. To build a community in Chennai and chronicle stories about body and skin positivity, freelance writer BS Arun Sandeep along with his wife Kruthika Ganesh, brother BS Rohit and friend Madhumeetha B started a social movement called Petromax Lighteh Dhan Venuma?. “We have faced a lot of comments (positive and negative) about our body and skin. There are many body positivity campaigns and social movements out there, but we wanted to contribute to the cause in our way. Petromax Lighteh Dhan Venuma is a movement to break beauty standards. Through our podcast series, we aim to normalise acne, bodyweight, colour and any other body issues one might face. We are here to break taboos about body and skin. These days, people question everything; so why not question the body standards?” asks Arun.

Along with the movement, they have also started a campaign called oru kadha sollunga saar. “We cannot cover certain stories on the podcast. So we started this campaign to share such stories. There are many unsaid stories that we want to explore through this campaign. This will be a platform for people’s voices and stories without judging or preaching. We found that voice and a team to express our stories among each other. So, we wanted to extend the same courtesy to those around us. Those who are interested can submit their stories through our Instagram account and we will get in touch with them,” Kruthika pitches in.
