Maha Cong holds tractor rally against farm laws in Nagpur

-

Thousands of Congress workers and farmers took out a tractor rally in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city on Saturday to protest against the Centre’s farm laws and hike in fuel prices.

Congress workers and party leaders rode on tractors and raised slogans against the Central government in front of the Raj Bhavan here.

State Congress chief Balasaheb Thorat, ministers Sunil Kedar, Vijay Waddetiwar, Nitin Raut,

Bhai Jagtap and several other party leaders participated in the rally.

The rally was earlier supposed to be held in Mumbai, but venue for the protest was changed in the last minute to coincide with Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s visit to Nagpur from January 12 to 17.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Thorat had said that state Congress workers will “gherao” the Raj Bhavan in Nagpur to demand that the “draconian” farm laws be repealed and also to protest against the frequent hikes in fuel prices.

Around 400 farmers from Kerala join protest

Around 400 farmers from Kerala have joined the ongoing agitation near the Rajasthan-Haryana border against three new farm laws.

A group of farmers from Kerala came to Alwar’’s Shahjahanpur on Friday to participate in the sit-in launched by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha against the Centre’s farm laws, former CPI (M) MLA Amra Ram said.

He said the farmers are protesting on a 3-km stretch of the highway, which has one service lane opened for locals.

“The farmers are protesting under intense cold conditions but the Centre is not bothered,” he added.
