25 kg gold looted at gunpoint from K’giri firm
COIMBATORE: In a daring incident, a six-member gang looted 25 kg of gold jewels worth Rs 10 crore and Rs 96,000 in cash by threatening the staff of a private financial firm at gunpoint in Krishnagiri district on Friday morning.
The masked robbers entered Muthoot Finance Limited on Hosur-Bagalur Road shortly after it was opened around 9.30 am. They unleashed an attack on the staff, including firm’s manager Srinivasaragav, 28, and plastered their mouths.
“The robbers then opened the chest of the firm at gunpoint and took away 25 kg of jewels and Rs 96,000 in cash by packing all of it in a sack. The culprits had also attacked a customer who came to the firm at the time of the incident,” police said.
After executing the daring robbery in broad daylight, the gang members escaped in two-wheelers. The shocked staff managed to inform the police about the incident. A police team led by Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police Bandi Gangadhar visited the scene of crime and held investigations.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the thieves conversed in Hindi and were all aged less than 30 years. “Ten special teams have been formed to track down the culprits. Five teams have gone to Bengaluru and the rest to other places in search of the culprits. We are hopeful of nabbing them soon,” said Gangadhar to reporters.
The robbers have also taken away the digital video recorder of the CCTV cameras from the branch to prevent police from identifying them. The police are now questioning the staff of the firm to know if anyone was involved in the offence.
As the news of the robbery broke out, a large number of frantic customers began to pour in to check if their valuables were safe. A sniffer dog and fingerprint experts were pressed into service and further investigations are on.
