Locals stage protest, want farmers to vacate Singhu highway
Singhu border in Delhi was witness to a different kind of protest on Thursday and this time it was against agitating farmers.
A group of people claiming to be locals near Singhu border took out a march asking protesting farmers to vacate the highway. They came out on roads in the afternoon with tricolor in their hands, angry villagers raised slogans ‘Singhu border khali karokaro karo’ (vacate Singhu border). Speaking to some media sources the locals said they were protesting because some of them were badly affected due to the ongoing farmers’ agitation at Singhu border. Some protesters said they couldn’t tolerate the insult to tricolour by farmers on Republic Day in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Farmer union leaders took out a “Sadbhavna rally” from the Singhu border on Thursday to reinforce a sense of unity among the protestors. Several farmer union leaders, including including Balbir Singh Rajewal, Daljeet Singh Dallewal, Darshan Pal and Gurnam Singh Chaduni, who led the rally said the march was organised “to counter the forces trying to divide the protesting farmers along religious lines and as per states” and to show that they respect the tricolour.
