Nadda affirms party’s alliance with AIADMK

J P Nadda on Saturday said his party’s alliance with the AIADMK would continue for the assembly elections, due in Tamil Nadu in a few months. Both parties would face the polls together, he said, addressing a public meeting in Madurai, his first in the run up to the Assembly elections expected in April or early May. Nadda clad in traditiona­l dhoti and shirt, also quoted ‘Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir’.

MADURAI: BJP national president JP Nadda convened a series of indoor meetings with his party cadres in Madurai and a public rally on Saturday and also announced his party will face Assembly polls in alliance with the ruling party.

“AIADMK is working in line with BJP. Tamil Nadu will attain growth along with progress achieved by the nation,” said Nadda while addressing a public rally along Madurai Ring road near Karupayura­ni. Further, he said employment opportunit­ies were created in major cities including Chennai, Salem and Trichy for the benefit of people. As for Madurai, more infrastruc­ture developmen­t projects are taking shape under Centre’s ‘smart cities mission’.

Earlier, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been reciting Tamil verses and quoting key lines from poems wherever he goes. During the schedule, Nadda clad in traditiona­l dhoti and shirt, also quoted ‘Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir’. During party meeting, roles and responsibi­lities of cadres were discussed, sources said. He also addressed ‘social media volunteers meet’ in Madurai as part of his schedule.

During the meetings, veteran leaders of the party also took part. Moreover, Nadda tweeted that he was happy to have interacted with eminent personalit­ies who joined the BJP.

Earlier, Nadda along with his wife paid a visit to Meenakshi Sundareswa­rar temple in Madurai and offered special prayers. He waved his hand to his supporters at the exit of the temple. Nadda was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival. He was accompanie­d by L Murugan, State president of BJP and Vanathi Srinivasan, vice president of the party among others.
