Ahead of Sasi’s return today, properties of Ilavarasi, Sudhakaran confiscated

-

A day ahead of VK Sasikala’s return to Chennai, the State on Sunday confiscated properties of J Ilavarasi and VN Sudhakaran, two other convicts in the disproportionate assets case.

In a release, the Chennai Collectorate stated that the properties were confiscated based on the SC’s verdict on February 2, 2017. They include a house in Wallace Garden, Thousand Lights, measuring six grounds and 1,087 square feet, additional buildings constructed in the Wallace Garden property, and a house in TTK Road constructed in an area of two grounds and 1,237 square feet. All properties were registered with Lex properties in which Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi are partners.

The confiscated properties belong to the State government and any revenue generated out of properties such as rent, belonged to the government, the release stated. The move has kicked off a fresh debate as Sasikala is expected to stay in the house of Ilavarasi’s daughter Krishnapriya in T Nagar.

Meanwhile, the AMMK is planning to set up invitation points at 32 places in Chennai alone apart from a grand welcome for Sasikala at the TN border followed by a huge rally of cars behind her. “Sasikala will be welcomed at each and every place enroute Chennai by the respective district secretaries and functionaries at local level,” an AMMK source said.

Several posters were also seen on Sunday welcoming the AMMK leader back to Tamil Nadu despite actions taken on those AIADMK functionaries supporting her. However, an advertisement that appeared in ‘Nammadhu Amma’, mouthpiece of the AIADMK, created a fresh controversy s Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was mentioned as Bharathan, brother of Lord Rama. Debates broke out in social media on whether Panneerselvam was conveying his wish to hand over the rule back to Sasikala, like Bharathan did to Lord Rama on his return from the exile.

Sasikala, who was released from Parappana Agrahara prison on January 27 after serving four years of imprisonment in misappropriation of assets case, was admitted in Victoria hospital in Bengaluru due to COVID and was shifted to a private farm house in Bengaluru for self-isolation.
