History-sheeter with 40 cases killed by gang

A notorious history-sheeter from Mylapore facing about 40 criminal cases, who came out of prison on bail only two weeks ago, was hacked to death by a rival gang from Zam Bazaar at Ashok Nagar on Thursday night. Police suspect that the killing could have been executed as a revenge for the murder of one Thottam Sekhar.

The incident happened on the Second Street in Postal Colony on Thursday night where the deceased, Shivakumar, had gone to meet one Justin, a real estate agent. He went there to collect repayment of a loan of Rs 10 lakh that he had given to the latter during the pandemic lockdown, police said.

According to officials, the gang followed Shivakumar to the real estate office and hacked him. Such was the brutality of the attack that half his head was chopped off, said the police, adding that Shivakumar died on the spot with serious injuries.

The body was shifted to Royapettah government hospital for postmortem examinatio­n by Ashok Nagar police team. Sources added that there were six attackers, including Azhagu Raja, son of Thottam Sekhar. Five of the suspects, inclduing Azhaguraja, surrendere­d in court in Kallakuruc­hi on Friday .

Shivakumar had around 40 cases, including extortion, kidnapping and attempt to murder pending in Mylapore, Zam Bazaar and Royapettah stations, officials added. He had come out of jail only a fortnight ago. One of the A- plus category rowdies in the city, his marriage a few years ago was the talk of the town then due to the presence of police officials and politician­s.
