Siddharth, BJP trade threat charges; plaint filed against actor

-

CHENNAI: Even as actor Siddharth alleged that Tamil Nadu BJP members have leaked his phone number on social media, triggering threatening calls to him and his family members, BJP has lodged a complaint with Chennai police accusing him of threatening Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath through one of his Twitter posts.

The actor on Thursday disclosed through his Twitter handle that he and his family have been receiving abusive calls and are being threatened with death and rape. Siddharth added that he has submitted all the numbers to the police.

“Ivan inimela vaaye thirakka koodathu” (this fellow must never open his mouth again), Siddarth quoted a post and noted that it was one of many social media posts by BJP TN members.

We might survive COVID. Will we survive these people? the actor wondered.

Siddharth has been very vocal in expressing his dissent against the ruling BJP government. In the recent past, the actor has criticised the ruling party over their COVID crisis management.

The actor’s tweet on Wednesday saying: “Any false claims of being a decent human being or a holy man or a leader will face one tight slap” seems to have infuriated BJP supporters.

Anandan, state secretary, Art & Culture Cell of Tamil Nadu BJP who lodged an online complaint with Chennai police said Siddarth threatened the UP Chief Minister and asked the police to take action against the actor adding that the consequences of the tweet would spoil the tranquillity of the society.
