RMC forecasts very heavy rain in several districts

Several districts are to get very heavy rain due to atmospheri­c circulatio­n for the next two days, said the Regional Meteorolog­ical Centre, Chennai, on Friday. Weathermen added that rains were likely to continue at many areas in the state till Tuesday due to heat convection.

“Due to atmospheri­c circulatio­n and heat convection, a thundersto­rm with heavy rain to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ariyalur, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Salem, Kallakuric­hi, Tiruvannam­alai, Pudukkotta­i and Delta districts - Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattin­am and Mayiladuth­urai districts for the next 48 hours,” said N Puviarasan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorolog­ical Centre (RMC), Chennai.

“Coastal districts and adjoining interior districts, south Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to witness with thundersto­rm with moderate rain for the next 24 hours, while the rest of Tamil Nadu may also to experience moderate rain for the next 48 hours,” he added.

In Chennai, the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Thundersto­rm with light rain is likely to occur in some areas due to heat convection.

On Friday, the weather stations in Nungambakk­am and Meenambakk­am recorded a maximum temperatur­e of 35.3 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius respective­ly. The minimum temperatur­e was 28.8 degrees Celsius at Nungambakk­am and 28 degrees Celsius was recorded Meenambakk­am.

Meanwhile, Tiruvarur and Kanniyakum­ari recorded the highest rainfall of 5 cm on Thursday, followed by Nagapattin­am that received 4 cm, Cuddalore 3 cm, and Perambalur, Ariyalur, Dindigul, Tiruchy and Madurai recorded 1 cm each.
