AIIMS students to attend classes at Ramnad college
CHENNAI: Students who will be admitted to the 50 medical seats sanctioned by the Union government at the Madurai AIIMS this year will attend classes at the newly inaugurated Ramanathapuram Medical College, Health Minister Ma Subramanian said on Thursday.
He said construction of Madurai AIIMS is under way and a memorandum for the initiation of other pending works has been given to the Union Health Minister on Wednesday.
“Chief Minister MK Stalin also gave a memorandum on setting up of AIIMS in Coimbatore and six other medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. It also includes exemption from NEET for the State. However, the training and online classes for NEET aspirants will continue until the exemption is granted,” the Health Minister added.
Talking about the vaccination drive, Subramanian said 24-hour vaccination centres at 61 locations in Tamil Nadu and mega vaccination camps will not function this week due to the Pongal holidays. “So far, 3.32 crore people have been vaccinated through the camps. The precautionary booster dose of the vaccine has so far been given to 60,051 people and about 75 per cent of the eligible children between the age of 15-18 have been vaccinated,” he said.
The Health Minister participated in the Pongal celebrations with the staff at the King Institute, Guindy. He also flagged off a new vehicle for the transportation of the staff at the hospital. Later, two private school students from Saidapet raised funds through their friends and family and handed over mobile phones to seven government school students to help them study online in the presence of the Health Minister on Thursday.
