TNAU flower replica attracts visitors
The five-day annual 124th Ooty flower show, featuring an exciting line up of floral replicas and vegetable carved models was inaugurated at Government Botanical Garden by Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday.
A massive replica of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) measuring 80 feet in length and 20 feet in height, made with over one lakh carnations turned out to be the cynosure of all eyes.
Another major attraction at the show is the floral statuette of tribes, native to the hill district including Todas, Irulars, Kurumbars, Paniyars, Kotas and Kattunayakan were made out with 20,000 carnations.
This year’s flower show turned out to be special as it is being organised after two years of COVID-19 pandemic. Also, marking the hill district’s 200th year of formation, tourists were greeted by floral decoration, ‘Ooty 200.’
Another major attraction at the show was models of Indian gaur and the structure of ‘Valluvar Kottam’ carved out of vegetables. Besides floral arches, decorations in cartoon characters enthralled the children.
The flower show had a lineup of 4,500 potted plants at the
Glass House. Imported flowers like tulips, calla lily, orchids; protea, hydrangea and hyacinthus adorned the garden. It turned out to be a visual treat to see over 35,000 flower pots of 275 varieties.
There were also stalls with displays to create awareness on organic farming, ‘meendum majapai’ (again yellow bag) as an alternative to hazardous plastic bags and honey production.

accompanied by his wife Durga Stalin, Forest Minister K Ramachandran, Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam and other officials went around the garden, visibly delighted at the floral displays.
Further, Stalin also shook hands with tourists, obliged for selfies with them and later watched the cultural events. Thousands of tourists thronged the flower show, will end on May 24.
