Get vaccinated, follow COVID protocol: Ma Su

The 30th mega COVID-19 vaccinatio­n drive was organised at more than 1 lakh centres across the State on Sunday.

At least 13.83 lakh doses of vaccines were administer­ed during the drive including 10.30 lakh first doses, 2.44 lakh second doses and 1.08 lakh booster doses on Sunday.

Health Minister Ma Subramania­n inspected a camp at Avadi. “Over 11.15 crore doses of vaccines have been administer­ed in the State. At least 93.91% people have been vaccinated with first dose and 83.11% have received both doses,” he said.

Over 42.50 lakh persons have not been vaccinated in Tamil Nadu, and 1.21 crore are yet to get the second dose. So far, 4.30 crore doses of vaccines have been administer­ed at 29 mega vaccinatio­n camps.

Urging the public to get the booster dose, Subramania­n said vaccinatio­n for children aged 15-17 years has already started in schools. “Now, they’ll get second dose as well. Children in 12-14 age group must get vaccinated with Corbevax.

Talking about the rise in the cases of COVID-19 in the State, he said that the daily cases are crossing 200 and deaths due to COVID-19 are also being reported in other parts of the country.

“Thus, it’s important to ensure vaccinatio­n and adherence to COVID-19 protocols,” he pointed out. “Our Chief Minister MK Stalin has highlighte­d the need for managing the spread of COVID-19 infection in the State.”

An awareness walk was held in Avadi and masks were distribute­d to the participan­ts of the walk. “All healthcare facilities are kept ready. We have adequate beds and oxygen facilities in all hospitals. No need to panic,” he said.
